The Team
DDoS attacks are steadily becoming more sophisticated and network operators need to know that the people behind the DDoS protection products are capable of rapidly developing and implementing solutions in the face of new attack methods. The RioRey management and engineering team has decades of networking experience and most of its key developers have been with the company for five years or more. This is the team responsible for protecting public and private networks and hosting sites across North America and EMEA since 2006.
Barton Shigemura
Chairman of the board
Mr. Shigemura brings a broad spectrum of executive level experience to RioRey. Prior to joining RioRey, he was Chairman of DataGardens, a DR as a service company, which was acquired by CenturyLink (CTL). Prior to DataGardens, Bart was Vice President of Ventures for Alcatel-Lucent where his team was responsible for internal, external and joint ventures for ALU. Before Alcatel-Lucent, Bart was President and CEO of YottaYotta, a storage virtualization company (EMC). Previous to YottaYotta, Bart was the Vice President of Marketing for all data products at Lucent Technologies. He joined Lucent via their acquisition of Yurie Systems, where he served as Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, and was a member of their Board of Directors, helping to take Yurie public. Bart was also Vice President of Marketing and Services at Premisys Communications, which he joined pre-IPO.
Bart has been a Board member for several publicly traded companies, including Yurie Systems, Tellium, and Zhone Technologies.
Nitin Mehrotra
Co-Founder, President and CEO
Mr. Mehrotra is a technologist with over thirty years of software engineering and management experience and a track record of successfully delivering complex security and communication products to the market. Prior to RioRey, he was a senior engineer in the router group at Marconi (now Ericsson). Before Marconi, he was the founder and CTO of Miricast, an IP TV company that developed a video-delivery platform. Nitin has held senior engineering management positions as Director of Software at Alidian Networks, a developer of layer two metro optical networking platforms, and before that, as Director of Software at Lucent Technologies’ Data Networking Systems Division, where he led the group in delivering the award-winning PSAX multi-service edge switch. He joined Lucent via their acquisition of Yurie Systems. Mr. Mehrotra started his career at Unisys Corporation where he worked in the operating systems development group and was an early contributor to the POSIX security working groups.
Benjamin Li
Vice President of Engineering
With years of engineering and design experience, Mr. Li is responsible for RioRey’s core product offerings. Most recently he led the team that created Director, Riorey’s entry into the routing and off-ramp DDoS mitigation space. He also led the rWeb project, designing and building from the ground up RioRey’s current-generation management and reporting system. His conceptual insight and coding skills contributed to the core RIOS operating system. An employee since the company’s founding, Mr. Li has shared in evolving RioRey’s solutions and the principles that underpin the RioRey approach to DDoS defense.
Dean Moheet
VP of Sales and Marketing
In Dean's 15 year tenure at RioRey he has held various roles on the sales, marketing and product management teams. As VP of sales, Dean manages both organizational sales activities as well as being hands on day-to-day with our partners and priority clients. He lead the sales team through the transition from capex/hardware only sales models, to subscription based Virtual Solutions, and now leads our new cloud services offering.
Before joining RioRey, Dean spent years in accounting and financial operations in the medical industry.
John (“Jack”) McDonnell
Executive Vice President, Finance and Administration
Mr. McDonnell is a business executive and attorney with over forty years of experience in executive positions in a broad span of industries, including aerospace, telecommunications, technology, and life sciences. Since the mid-90s, he has been involved in a number of successful entrepreneurial companies, with positions at Yurie Systems, Inc., and Cibernet Corporation, and he was co-founder of several life science start-ups. He was previously an Executive Vice-President at Fairchild Industries, Inc., the Principal Deputy General Counsel of the Department of the Navy, and he has served on the Boards of Directors of several companies and regional banks
